SAP Meets Microsoft Fabric: Key Takeaways from FabCon 2025

FabCon 2025 brought together more than 6,000 data professionals, partners, and technology leaders in Las Vegas — all focused on the future of data, AI, and Microsoft Fabric. Our team was on-site to connect with customers, engage with partners and Microsoft experts, and showcase how our SAP integration solutions enable real-time, AI-ready data pipelines into Microsoft Fabric. The conference offered a clear view of where the market is heading: seamless data integration, real-time access, and rapid enterprise adoption of Fabric. Our key takeaway? We’re right on track to help our customers stay ahead.

Microsoft’s Vision: Unified, AI-Ready Data

In the opening keynotes, Microsoft executives outlined their roadmap for Fabric and how it helps businesses modernize their data strategies. Their message: Data is the foundation for AI. Fabric is designed to make enterprise data accessible, integrated, and AI-ready – all in one place. And the numbers speak for themselves:  19,000+ paying Fabric customers, 375,000 Power BI customers, and over 70%+ of the Fortune 500 are already onboard. Microsoft leads all four Gartner Magic Quadrants: Data Integration, Cloud DBMS, AI, and BI tools. Microsoft is gradually migrating customers from Azure Synapse to the Fabric Data Warehouse. A new partnership with Snowflake stood out: it allows Fabric to read Iceberg tables from Snowflake (and vice versa) — without the need to move or duplicate data – a strong signal for openness and interoperability.

What SAP Users were Talking About

Throughout the three-day event, we had numerous in-depth conversations with SAP customers and prospects at our booth. A few themes came up again and again: Many organizations are moving away from SSIS and are actively looking for smarter ways to integrate SAP data into the Microsoft ecosystem. Our solution – Xtract Universal + Microsoft Fabric – was a natural fit in almost every conversation — especially in the context of near real-time reporting, analytics, and flexible data architecture. There is growing demand for CDS View extraction, particularly with Delta support and no reliance on SAP ODP. Table CDC and Fabric Mirroring were among the most frequently discussed topics.

Customers are eager to test these new capabilities despite current preview limitations (e.g., 500-table limit). Interest in on-premises support via Data Gateway for Mirroring is clearly growing as well, especially in hybrid SAP environments. Other conversations touched on tools like SAP Datasphere, which many participants described as slow, costly, and inflexible. ODP, in contrast, was seen as a niche solution primarily used in combination with SAP Analytics Cloud. And one more highlight: the Excel + OneLake Catalog integration sparked enthusiasm among business users — a sign of growing demand for self-service access to SAP data in Fabric.

Final Thoughts: Fabric is Here to Stay – and SAP Integration is Essential

FabCon 2025 made one thing clear: Microsoft Fabric is quickly becoming the new foundation for cloud-based analytics and AI. As organizations accelerate their digital transformation, seamless, real-time access to SAP data is critical — and that’s where Theobald Software delivers real value. With Xtract Universal, businesses can reliably integrate SAP with Microsoft Fabric to power AI use cases, modern business intelligence, and operational dashboards. The event also validated our product direction, with strong interest in support for Table CDC, CDS View extraction, and Fabric Mirroring.
