The EV Group is carrying out its business intelligence and advanced analytics strategy using the BI platform from Oracle. During this process, the company discovered that it needed to take master and transaction data from SAP and make it available in the Oracle Business Intelligence Service. Thomas Schicklberger, IT Application Service Engineer for Business Intelligence at the EV Group, noted: “We didn’t want to access the SAP tables directly, but rather just the SAP data sources (extractors), since these always deliver exactly what is defined, regardless of how much the substructure
of the database tables or the overall architecture changes. This was also an important consideration for us in light of the upcoming migration to S4/HANA.” A simple, low-threshold solution was sought for this that would import data from the SAP source systems in a stable and high-performance manner using SAP’s own or SAP-certified methods and provide it for the data warehouse.
“What I find exceptional about Xtract Universal with the Oracle target environment
is its simplicity, focus on the essentials, stability, and high performance.”

Solution with Xtract Universal
Xtract Universal with the Oracle target environment hits the bullseye by providing the needed features. The EV Group was also impressed by the fact that Xtract Universal has a lean design and very targeted use case: Thomas Schicklberger explained: “The interface is kept simple and focuses on what it is supposed to do with no other frills: transferring data.”
Challenge
Data transfer from the ERP and BW SAP source
systems
Added value
Stable and high performant data transfers
from SAP source systems. Inexpensive to both
purchase and maintain.
EV Group started with the free trial version of the software. The company was already using the interface productively within just a few hours. The help of the Theobald Software support team was largely unneeded, but when it was, the customer service was very quick and personalized. For the EV Group, the greatest benefit of the interface was the fact that it was able to call up data for analysis and reporting tasks in a centralized and uncomplicated manner. Thomas Schicklberger summarized, “Basically, we can now tap into SAP sources on an ad hoc basis and integrate them into our warehouse/BI within a very short amount of time without having to build up a comprehensive base of SAP knowledge. Just the one feature of being able to create target tables fully automatically saves us a lot of work during the design and modelling phase.”
