Automating the transfer of data from SAP ERP to the Manufacturing Execution System
The group faced the challenge of integrating IDocs from SAP ERP for production management into the newly introduced Manufacturing Execution System. The data transfer needed to be highly automated via an interface that could meet customer-specific requirements.
“Without ERPConnect, we would have had to develop our own interface from scratch. That would have costus a lot of time and energy, and we would have had no guarantee that the resulting interface could satisfy the necessary performance metrics.”

Solution with ERPConnect
At the recommendation of the MES provider, the Chang Chun Group evaluated ERPConnect. The SAP interface can be integrated natively into 32-bit and 64-bit applications. A separate API is available for each type of SAP object (e.g., functional modules, SAP IDocs, RFC servers, BW cubes, etc.). The design and implementation of the interface are also possible with corresponding ease. Shawn Tsui, MES System Engineer at Chang Chun Group, reported:“At first we deployed the free trial version of ERPConnect. Our MES successfully received and processed the IDoc and RFC calls delivered by SAP in a relatively short amount of time.” After the successful completion of practical testing, ERPConnect was put into productive operation. Theobald Software helped the chemical company satisfy the customer’s specific requirements. Ivy Luo emphasized: “Theservice and support are excellent. All our questions were answered throughout the process very quickly and professionally.”

Added value
Optimized production management
The chemical company believed that the major advantage of the solution was that the connection between the MES and SAP was already preconfigured in ERPConnect, making it very easy to connect and use. The highly flexible interface was also impressive. Shawn Tsui, MES System Engineer, Chang Chun Group added: “ERPConnect is highly flexible and can be completely adapted to different requirements and infrastructures. If we also need to connect other systems to SAP, we will again opt for ERPConnect as the interface technology.” Chang Chun Group has also taken interest in another solution from Theobald Software – ECS Core, an SAP interface for cloud environments – to integrateSAP PCE (S4 HANA Cloud) with the Microsoft Office 365 Power Platform.
