Embarking On University Studies – A Prospective Dual Student Shares Her Experience
Theresa Hubing will begin her studies in Business Administration – Digital Business Management at DHBW in Stuttgart from October 2023, with Theobald Software as her dual partner for practical phases. Prior to commencing her studies, she decided to undertake a one-month internship in the Marketing department at Theobald Software. In this blog post, Theresa shares her first-hand impressions from the internship, provides insights into her tasks, and explains why a preceding internship with the dual partner can be a rewarding experience.
Hi, I’m Theresa! To ease my transition into the dual study program and get to know the team and my future tasks during practical phases, I completed a one-month internship in the Marketing department in September. I’ve documented how it went, what I experienced, and the benefits the internship offered me in my blog post.
How my internship went
On my first day of the internship, I was warmly welcomed by my future team. A dedicated workspace with my own laptop and fantastic welcome gifts awaited me. In the initial days, various marketing tasks were introduced to me, and I was assigned interesting projects for independent work right away. These weren’t your typical intern tasks that one might remember from school internships; they were engaging project tasks. This included creating a customer newsletter, developing a concept for an animated video, and writing this blog post.
During regular team meetings, I actively contributed to the team and even got to digitally meet colleagues from the U.S. office in Seattle. Outside working hours, team events provided the opportunity to engage in conversations with colleagues from other departments over dinner. I also gained insights into management during my internship through the Townhall Meeting, where reports from the leadership shed light on the company’s performance and upcoming projects.
Highlights of my internship?
My highlights from the internship include being considered a vital part of the team from day one and being involved in many exciting topics. I am grateful for the trust placed in me, allowing me to work independently on projects from the first day of the internship. My work results received the highest recognition within the team and were used, among other things, for the company’s website.
Would I recommend an internship to future students?
Absolutely! Within the internship month, I gained initial experience in marketing, handled independent tasks successfully, and acclimated to the team and the new environment. While the internship is not mandatory, I definitely recommend it from my perspective.
How does one benefit from such an internship?
The internship provides insight into the operations and processes at Theobald Software. Additionally, it allows you to get to know future colleagues and take on initial projects before starting your studies. The internship is particularly beneficial for programs that begin with a theoretical phase, where students spend the first three months exclusively at the university with little contact with the dual partner. Before the first day at the university, you can also connect with current students at Theobald Software, exchange information, and get some tips for a smooth start to your studies.
General information about internships at Theobald Software
Theobald Software offers prospective students the opportunity to voluntarily complete a one-month internship in the company before starting their studies. It facilitates mutual acquaintance between the student and their dual partner and serves as an initial orientation in the company, with a focus on the marketing area.
