In the fourth semester of her dual studies in Digital Business Management, our student Theresa had the opportunity to spend four exciting weeks at our office in Seattle, USA. How the great journey began

On August 1, 2025, my trip to the US started at Frankfurt Airport. It was my first solo trip, so I was quite nervous. After landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and about an hour and a half at passport control, it really hit me for the first time: I had actually arrived! I took the train to the city center and arrived at my accommodation. It was located right next to the famous Space Needle, the city's famous landmark. It was now 6 PM in Seattle and 3 AM in Germany. Being alone on the other side of the world felt strange at first. At the same time, however, I was proud to have taken the first step of my journey and successfully mastered it.

Daily work at 2200 Sixth Avenue

On my first day at work I was warmly welcomed by the team and given a tour of the office in the Denny Building, which is located just a few steps away from the famous Spheres of the Amazon campus. In the office building, I immediately noticed a few details that seemed typically American to me: the security in the lobby, the water dispensers in the hallways, and the huge refrigerator in the kitchen. During my four weeks, I worked on projects in the areas of finance and marketing. A typical workday for me started around 9:30 a.m. at the office, which I reached within a 20-minute walk through the city. The friendly and open atmosphere made me feel very comfortable right from the start and enabled me to quickly settle into my new environment. I particularly enjoyed the time with the team outside of work, which we spent together over a few drinks at the Old Stove Brewery on the pier and at a Mariners baseball game.

Jazz evenings, city flair, and baseball: My month in Seattle

The possibilities for things to do in Seattle are almost endless, especially in summer. Although the city is known for its rainy weather, it shows it’s best side during this season. Luckily for me, countless events took place at this time in August. I experienced and saw an incredible amount during my four weeks there, so I've summarized my highlights for you here:

Every Monday, the Seattle Jazz Fellowship hosts free jazz evenings. Starting at 7:30 PM, a wide variety of musicians of all ages perform in the atmospheric jazz cellar. The exciting thing about it is that the participants don't know each other and are randomly put together into bands, which made each performance unique. I also really enjoyed attending the Seattle Downtown Summer Sounds concert series, which brought a program of free concerts ranging from soul to rap to pop to the local community.

There is something new to discover every day in Seattle's various neighborhoods. My favorite place to visit was Kerry Park in Queen Anne, which offers a perfect view of the Seattle skyline. On Sundays, I often shopped at the Sunday Market in Fremont, where I discovered clothing, handmade jewelry, and creative decorations by local artists. Ballard impressed me with its Scandinavian flair and many restaurants and shops. On sunny days, it was always worth visiting the beach at Golden Gardens Park.

During my last week, I went with my coworkers to see the Seattle Mariners play the San Diego Padres. For a Wednesday afternoon, the stadium was surprisingly full, and the crowd created a great atmosphere. The focus was not only on the game itself, but also on the entertainment during the breaks and the huge selection of food and drinks. Even without knowing the rules in detail, the game was a real highlight for me - capped off by a Mariners' victory.

It’s a wrap!

My visit to Seattle was an unforgettable time, full of exciting moments and new experiences. Living and working there allowed me to get to know the city and my colleagues from a whole new perspective. I am very grateful for this opportunity, which not only gave me valuable insights into the working world, but also into the diversity and unique charm of Seattle, and I am happy to take home many great memories from my time there.

My special thanks go to the team in Seattle, who welcomed me so warmly and made my stay an unforgettable experience. I am already looking forward to seeing you again in Stuttgart!
