“We decided on a cloud-first strategy because of its technological advantages,” said Tim Koesler, data engineer at DEHN SE. “As part of that strategy, we have to migrate our data warehouse to Microsoft Azure. That presents us with the challenge of transporting SAP data to the Azure cloud. The Microsoft solutions don’t harmonize well enough with SAP yet, especially since they don’t cover the entire bandwidth of data extraction from SAP. But that’s essential for us as 70 percent of our data comes from SAP systems.”
“Xtract Universal has made our path to the Azure cloud much easier. Data from our SAP systems finds its way into the Microsoft environment
automatically and reliably, and the tool is very lean and precise, so it’s very cost-effective.”

Solution with Xtract Universal
A DEHN SE partner recommended Xtract Universal. This interface supports various transport protocols and includes nine extraction types that cover all SAP data extraction requirements. DEHN began with the free test version of the SAP interface. “Theobald Software was very obliging here. They even provided us with the test version beyond the usual 30-day test period,” said Sylvia Abraham, Data Lake Technical Consultant at DEHN SE. “Their team also provided very fast and effective support when we needed to know how we could access the Theobald solution from the Azure Data Factory. Within a day, Theobald Software provided us with a template and a proposed solution for the problem. That was a big help.”
Challenge
Providing SAP data in Azure Storage
Added value
Central availability of SAP data in Azure Storage
for reporting and analytics with Power BI
The interface is used for the central provisioning of SAP data in Azure Data Lake for further processing in Microsoft applications, especially in Azure Data Factory. “With a view to data-driven business management, data analytics is becoming increasingly important for us. In order for us to be able to meet all of the analysis needs of departments such as sales and production, SAP data needs to be centrally available in Azure Data Lake. With Xtract Universal, we have the ideal tool for transferring data from the SAP world to the Microsoft world,” Koesler concluded.
